Abbotsford acts as a gateway to exploring the beautiful countryside of the Scottish Borders, its history and its culture. Many of the great families and estates, such as the Dukes of Buccleuch at Bowhill and the Maxwell Stuarts at Traquair, have close connections to Sir Walter Scott and his descendants. Abbotsford provides a fantatstic experience for visitors with all the history of the house combined with the beautiful formal gardens and scenic woodland and riverside walks through the wider estate.
Abbotsford will remain closed until 2013 to allow for an extensive programme of much-needed repair and refurbishment.
We are currently building a new Visitor Centre, including café, shop and a free to access exhibition on the life and legacy of Sir Walter Scott, which will open early summer 2012. While the main house will be closed until 2013, the visitor centre and Abbotsford’s beautiful garden and grounds will be open to visitors.
2012 Admission Cost to Gardens:
Adult £3.50
Under 17′s £2.50 (up to 5 years free)
Concessions £2.50
Guided garden tours available – please check times before your visit
